Stainless Steel Conveyor Belts for Food Processing: A Buying Guide
How to match metal conveyor belt weave, material and temperature rating to baking, frying, freezing and drying lines.

Match the belt to the process
Food conveyor belts carry products through ovens, fryers, freezers and dryers where fabric belts cannot survive. Metal belts handle heat, cold, washing and drainage.

Weave structures and their uses
Compound weave belts have a dense, smooth surface suited to conveying small items such as nuts, cookies and chemical grain, with even heat transfer for heat-sensitive products.
Flat flex belts are thin, flexible and easy to clean, widely used in frying, baking, cooling and chocolate enrobing lines.
Honeycomb (flat wire) belts give a flat, stable surface with 40-65% open area for air and drainage, running from -80 C to about 850 C in stainless steel.
Freezing and spiral belts
Self-stacking spiral freezer belts form their own helical support in a spiral tower, with no cage or guide rail, for consistent IQF freezing.
SS316L is recommended for seafood and brine contact; SS304 suits poultry, bakery, dairy and vegetable lines.
Material and temperature
Carbon steel suits dry, low-temperature duty. SS304 handles most food processing up to about 750-800 C depending on weave.
For aggressive washdown or chloride exposure, SS316/316L is the safer choice.
